JAMES LAYCOCK

Brand designer with an emphasis on storytelling
through succint, and scalable visual systems.

Clear visual expressions and systematic typography, layered together, form the basis of my approach to design.

Above all of that though, I’m just trying to be a good human.

ROLE:
LEAD DESIGNER
The client brought the challenge of creating a distinctive brand identity that authentically captures Alaska without falling into visual clichés. That brand essence was then applied across a multitude of package series, creating a look unlike anything else in beer at the time. The rebrand and ongoing package design work has fueled dramatic growth; expanding from one to three locations with tenfold sales increases and numerous industry awards.

IDENTITY SYSTEM

The brand identity is built around the idea of the modern frontier. I crafted an evolution on the existing brand identity that featured Alaskan mountains and and type locked up in a badge, reinterpreting this into a cleaner, more contemporary impression and then built out a complete identity system.
